IMPORTANT NOTICE/WARNING

A computer virus, disguised as an official-looking e-mail from Mahalasa.org, is now circulating throughout the World Wide Web, in an attempt to wreak havoc on computer systems.

This computer virus came to our attention Friday. Computer users, particularly Mahalasa.org visitors and specifically mahalasa.org e-mail users, are warned not to open this infected e-mail's attachment which contains a .zip drive file, which in turns contains the virus. DELETE THIS E-MAIL IMMEDIATELY.

The hoax e-mail's subject line reads, "Warning about your e-mail account." The e-mail begins with, "Dear user of mahalasa.org mailing system. Some of our clients complained about the spam outgoing from your e-mail account. Probably, you have been infected by a proxy-relay trojan server. In order to keep your computer safe, follow the instructions. For more information, see the attached file."

There are other variations of this e-mail too, but most of them ask you to download the attachment and has even given a "password". AGAIN, DELETE THIS E-MAIL IMMEDIATELY.

The e-mail goes on to say that the attached file, Readme1.zip, is password protected and includes the password. The e-mail concludes with, "Best wishes, The mahalasa.org team. and gives our address: http://www.mahalasa.org."

The sender may be the following: "support@mahalasa.org", "administration@mahalasa.org", or "noreply@mahalasa.org"; or as these attacks continue, any other name.

Please delete all such warning messages IMMEDIATELY and if working in Outlook, go to Edit and click on "Empty Deleted Items Folder". In web-based browsers "EMPTY TRASH CAN" immediately.

We also advice you to run anti-virus scans regularly using well-known anti-virus softwares like Norton Anti-Virus, McAfee or Sophos or other reputed brands.

We at Mahalasa.org or SimpleStepsOnline.com or any of its affiliated or related websites never send out any mail which contains any anti-virus download or software or any programmes or any other items as a matter of our security policy. Any purported e-mail from us with any attachement should be immediately deleted.

Incidentally, Mahalasa.org is not the only website that has been attacked by evil virus writers. This has been a world-wide phenomena and even many reputed academic institutions have been targetted.
